Past, Present and Future Perspectives in Health Education in Korea

Abstract

|
Historical development of the educational approach in health and present situation in Publie Health Education was reviewed in terms of administrative and educational institution for the purpose of suggestions and recommendations for efficient and effective development in the future.
The field of Health Education in Public Health was rather newly introduced in the early 1950´s and had difficulties stepping into the administrative organization of government as well as educational institutions due to a lack of recognition by policy makers.
The author suggests that Health Education be divided into two major fields. such as School Hellth Education and Communith Health Education A Undugraduate Programme should be prepared for School Health Educators and a graduate programme should be prepared for Community Health Education Specialists and for the development of health education leadership in schools and health industries.
Since coordination and cooperation between the ministries is very limited, it is proposed that The Ministry of Education be given more emphasis on school health programmes and preparation of school health educators while The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs be given more responsibility for the preparation of Community Health Education programmes and Community Health Education Specialists.
Also, The author strongly recommends that the Department of Health Education, of the college of Physical Education at Ewha Woman´s University be transferred to the College of Education to better prtpare school health educators and Community Health Educatovs. in the future.
